How to Get Here

Vava’u is a group of islands 275 miles north of the main Tongan island of Tongatapu .  International flights fly into Tongatapu regularly from many destinations. There is currently one domestic carrier operating here in Vava’u but it seems hard to get any info from travel agents regarding them so hopefully the following info will be of assistance.

We always recommend obtaining travel insurance when traveling to remote locations.

There are currently 2 ways of getting to Vava’u on an International Flight. First is with Fiji Airways. The flight originates in Nadi, Fiji. The second option is the domestic carrier Lulutai Airlines, which operates flights between the Tongan Islands.

Daily (except Sunday)  transfers take approximately 1 hour. When you arrive at the international terminal in Tongatapu there is little or no information about transferring to domestic flights, but what you need to do is get a taxi (they’ll be waiting right outside the terminal door) and take a 2 min ride down the road to the domestic terminal (should cost about $5 per person).    When you get to Vava’u we can arrange for the best taxi driver in Vava’u to meet you at the airport in Vava’u to transfer you to Lucky’s for $60.  He will stop in town allowing you to collect supplies before coming out to Lucky’s Beach.  Just send us your flight details and confirm the day before.

Another cheaper travel option for getting to Vava’u is one of the ferries from Tongatapu. Each boat runs one time a week. The best way to find the schedule is to use their Facebook page. Next is to call them at the number listed on their Facebook page, or website.
